Sega have stopped selling the Yakuza spin off Judge Eyes, or Judgment as it’s to known on these shores, as one of the actors in the game has been arrested for using drugs. Pierre Taki, a member of the techno-pop duo Denki Groove and actor for the character Kyohei Hamur in Judge Eyes was arrested and has “admitted to using a small quantity of cocaine in Tokyo and its vicinity earlier this week.”
Here is Sega’s statement via Google translate:
We believe that the arrest of Mr. Pierre, who is a performer of our product JUDGE EYES: The Testament of the Grim Reaper, is highly regrettable.
We have received arrest reports and are currently confirming the facts, but for the time being we have decided to refrain from shipping and DL sales of the product and posting of product HP etc. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers and related parties.
Possession or use of the drug in Japan can result in a prison sentence of up to seven years, they’re rather more strict that over the UK, get caught with a line or two here and you’ll get slapped wrist and told not to do it again and be sent on your way.
There’s been no comment on the Western release of the title, scheduled for June 25th, which does include the full Japanese voice cast and features Pierre, but as mentioned we’re rather more lenient when it comes to forgiving drug use, just ask Robert Downey Jr.
