Report: Apple working on a “premium games subscription” service

Bloomberg are reporting that Apple are in talks with potential partners to offer a “premium games subscription service” which will bundle a load of iOS games together for a monthly free. “The company would collect these monthly fees, then divide up the revenue between developers based on how much time users spend playing their games,” said the source.

The service would only include paid for games, those that are free to play but offer in-app purchases would not be included. Titles that could be included are Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto, and NBA 2K.

Would you be wiling to pay for such a service? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Nah, not until I can pair a DualShock 4 or Xbone controller to my iPhone/iPad/atv. Not liking the alternative mic controllers and I’m not paying for touch based given all those free alternatives.

  2. I’ve been wondering what would be a fair way to divide revenue on a subscription service and also promote high quality games. Here they mention duration per game. I wonder if this risk is games being designed to be addictive time dumps rather than creative or story driven shorts. Some of my favorite all time games are only a few hours long with little replay value, they need to find a way to fund that sort of content.

  3. A bundle of mobile games..? Nil plus nil equals…
