Dan Marshall’s last two games, The Swindle and Behold the Kickmen, have been more solo endeavours, but he’s reunited with his long time friend and co-writer Ben Ward for a return to the adventures of Ben and Dan. Ben There, Dan That! and Time Gentlemen, Please! were both well received and self aware adventure games, but ten years on from that, Ben and Dan are facing the challenges of new genres in Lair of the Clockwork God.
With the rise of indie games, they’re heading into the weird and wonderful world of platforming, but while Dan is all keen on the new direction, Ben is sticking firmly in the realms of adventure games. It makes for an interesting sounding blend of genres, as Dan can jump around and get to places, but has to rely on Ben’s ability to spot and combine items, who in turn refuses to jump and needs Dan in order to get around.
Lair of the Clockwork God is coming out in 2019, and it’s definitely coming to PC, with the possibility of PS4, Xbox One and Switch, though nothing is set in stone.
