Days Gone beats the lifetime sales of God of War in Japan in just two weeks

It appears Sony have a big hit on the hands with Days Gone, it’s topped the UK chart for a third consecutive week and has managed to beat Mortal Kombat 11 even thought that title is available on three platforms and Days Gone is a PlayStation exclusive.

In rather surprising news, Days Gone has also been a massive success in Japan. In just two weeks it has racked up sales of nearly 150,000 units, beating the lifetime sales of God of War. It’s also beaten the lifetime sales of Detroit: Become Human and The Last Guardian, and well on the way to thrashing the lifetime sales of Uncharted 4: Among Thieves, which stand at a little over 200,000 units.

The game also topped the digital charts on the PlayStation Store for April in Europe, and scored second place in the same chart over in North America. The States has seen a huge advertising campaign for the game with Sony running two television spots, This World Comes for You and One Bullet. Estimates suggest that each of these cost Sony around $3.95 million, and they have been seen on ABC, ESPN, and TNT during sporting events.

The game has had mixed reviews, “There are glimmers of true excellence here; small stretches of Days Gone can be especially fun and polished,” said Jim in our critique. “However, the assembly of these various parts suffers from the lack of an engaging story, compelling characters, or an open world that feels organic and worth exploring.”

Days Gone will get some free DLC in June with the launch of a new Survival mode. “‘Survival’ difficulty mode tests players by daring them to beat the story with increased difficulty settings, no fast travel or Survival Vision, and an immersive HUD that removes maps and indicators from the gameplay screen,” explained Jeff Ross, Game Director at Bend Studio. “Every tweak and change made is designed to further immerse players and ratchet up the tension to make this the definitive survival experience.”
