The Council’s developers are working on a different Vampire: The Masquerade RPG

Just a handful of weeks after Paradox Interactive announced a sequel to Vampire: The Masquerde – Bloodlines, Bigben Interactive and The Council developers Big Bad Wolf have announced their own, unrelated Vampire: The Masquerade RPG, being developed under license from Paradox.

There’s few details on the game a moment, with Big Bad Wolf just a few months into development on the project, but it will be a departure from the episodic narrative of The Council. This won’t be episodic, for one thing, and it will feature traditional RPG mechanics like levelling up, having an inventory and skills, but with a focus on the narrative aspects and the rival factions in the World of Darkness.

Bigben say it will be heavily inspired by the rules of the tabletop RPG, which will likely provide the point of gameplay differentiation to the Bloodlines sequel being developed by Hardsuit Labs.

Though it’s still early days, the studio promise to share more information about the game at Gamescom in August.

Update: Clarified the relationship between Bigben and Paradox’s two games.

  1. Rival? You know what rival means right? The Vampire IP is owned by Paradox Interactive, they are licensing it out to Big Bad Wolf to make another game. It’s not a “rival” game by a “rival” studio, they work for Paradox.

    • The details of the arrangement were a little lost in translation for me from the presentation where Bigben announced the game. Quite literally. It was in French.

You’re correct, though, in that it’s a licensed partnership and so I’ve amended the article.

      • Thanks for taking this issue and explaining it respectfully. Keep up the good work.
