Metro Exodus Expansion Pass DLC detailed, first chapter coming this summer

One of the big critical hits of the year so far, Metro Exodus is getting a bit bigger this summer as 4A Games and Deep Silver add to the game through the DLC Expansion Pass. Instead of playing as Artyom, we’ll see the world through the eyes of other characters in the world for the first time.

Note: There might be a few spoilers for the Metro Exodus campaign after this point. Not having played Metro Exodus, I don’t really know what I should cut out from the press release to make it spoiler free. I’ve tried anyway, but you’ve been warned!

It starts this summer with The Two Colonels, which follows Colonel Khelbnikov as he heads home through the dead city of Novosibirsk to join his son on New Year’s Eve. This seems to be fleshing out some of the backstory from the world, and players can expect a more classic Metro series style to the chapter. There’ll be a new flamethrower weapon though, so that’ll help in the claustrophobic environments!

The second DLC is Sam’s Story, coming in early 2020, following Sam, a US marine who turned Ranger after the bombs fell. His tale heads into a new sandbox environment based on Vladivostok as he searches for a way to head back to the US and see if any semblance of civilisation exists there.

The game received plaudits from critics and fans alike, and we were no different. Nicole wrote in our Metro Exodus review that it “provides an immersive FPS experience that marks a new milestone for the franchise. Its survival-horror, sandbox and shooter elements are remarkably well balanced, constituting an engaging and thrilling game that’ll leave you no stranger to a good jump scare. The once linear horror franchise has been reformed, introducing expansive environments to indulge in without derailing the narrative. Metro Exodus is a must play.”

Hopefully the DLC is just as essential! The Expansion Pass is now available for pre-order on PS4, Xbox One and PC via the Epic Games Store
