Apex Legends has been left to simmer for much of Season 1 of its post-launch content, but with a full Season 2 reveal set for an E3 EA Play stream next weekend, Respawn have preceded this with some high-level details of what we can expect. They’ve also announced a double XP event and some bonuses for those who bought the Season 1 Battle Pass and play over the few weeks.
Season 2 will see some major changes to the Battle Pass structure, in response to feedback from players. As outlined by Respawn it will feature:
- Level up via Daily and Weekly Challenges.
- Time to Battle Pass level 100 should be significantly reduced.
- Three additional Legendary skins added to the rewards track.
- Three entirely new content categories replace badge and stat tracker rewards.
- You’ll earn enough Crafting Metal rewards from the full reward track to craft a Legendary item, or whatever your heart desires.
Daily and Weekly challenges will help add more variety to the pass, without dramatically altering how you play. They’ll accelerate the road to level 100 and continue to be available after the week of their introduction, meaning you can catch up later.
There will also be more meaningful rewards in the Battle Pass progression, with a Legendary item at levels 1, 25, 50, 75 and 100. As in Battle Pass 1, the level 100 reward will be an evolving weapon skin. Thankfully, Respawn are removing badges and basic stat trackers from the premium Battle Pass rewards, and you’ll earn crafting metal rewards instead of voice lines, with enough to craft a Legendary item of your choice or multiple lower tier cosmetics.
Much more will be revealed at EA Play, with the Apex Legends stream starting at 10AM PST (6PM UK time) on 9th June.
Starting on Tuesday is a limited-time event they’re calling The Legendary Hunt. This will add limited-time challenges to earn new Rare, Epic and Legendary skins, as well as adding new Legendary Hunt themed skins to the in-game store. If you own the Battle Pass, you’ll automatically get the Legendary Honored Prey R-301 skin and for those that hit Battle Pass level 15 will get the Wraith Night Terror Legendary skin. These are retroactive.
There’s also a new Apex Elite queue to enter, where if you make it to the Top 5 of any match, you can then be matchmade with other Top 5 players. The trick is that you need to keep on placing in the Top 5. Additionally, during this event, you’ll earn an entire Battle Pass level once per day if you finish in the top 5.
Even more time-limited, is a Double XP weekend, starting on Friday 7th June at 6PM UK time and running until Monday 10th June 6PM UK time, where you’ll earn double XP on base progression and Battle Pass progression.

All good stuff. These things need to be much more frequent in the game, I hadn’t played for a while because it got stale.

Yup, and Respawn know that, but I think that instead of cracking the whip and forcing themselves to throw updates at the game through overtime, they’ve focussed on Season 2 and setting that up in advance. Hopefully it pays off, and even just having challenges in the BP will help.
