Mind melting horror games seem to have found a home on VR and the latest, Rise of Insanity, finds you in the shoes of a doctor of psychology.
Set in America in the 1970’s you play as Dr. Stephen Dowell, a renowned psychologist faced with a difficult patient who shows “distinct yet contradictory symptoms of different mental disorders.” The doctor also has his own troubles to sort out, his wife and child have befallen “a terrible fate” and it’s up to you to discover who is responsible. Could it be your mysterious patient?
Now, paint me purple and call me Susan, but I’ve seen enough movies to know that the mysterious patient is almost certainly a representation of the doctor and it is his fault his family got thrown in to a wood chipper. I’ll eat my hat if that isn’t the plot to the game.
The game has been out on PC VR devices for a while but has got rather average reviews. Many of them highlight the poor translation of the game in to English, and as the official website explains the game features a “renowned phycologist” rather than psychologist, that may not have changed for the PS4 version.
