Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition coming to Switch next month

Following in the hoof prints of the original game, Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition will also be coming soon to Nintendo Switch. The remastered collection will be available both digitally and at retail on 26th September.

The Deathinitive Edition is exactly what it kind of sounds like, a definitive version of the last gen action adventure game, bundling in all of the original DLC, revamping the visuals and even rebalancing some of the in-game loot. Originally out for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U in 2012, the Deathinitive Edition brought it to PS4 and Xbox One in 2015.

This is the latest development in a revived Darksiders series at THQ Nordic. The publisher has grown an awful lot in the last few years, originally called Nordic Games, but assuming the THQ branding and a lot of that company’s IP after its 2012 bankruptcy. They then remastered the first two Darksiders games for current gen consoles, while allowing Gunfire Games (themselves reborn from the ashes of original developer Vigil Games) to work on Darksiders III, which arrived at the end of 2018.

That game was moderately received, with our review saying “The smaller world of Darksiders 3 may disappoint some fans of the previous game, but this feels like a reboot of the series.”

Could Darksiders III alsoo be on the way to Switch? It certainly feels possible, but it might not be the next Darksiders on the way. Darksiders Genesis was announced at E3, a different twist on the franchise as a top down action RPG, and with horseman Strife (the fourth horseman that we’ll have played as) preferring guns to melee weapons. In development at Airship Syndicate, there’s no release date for that game, but it will be coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Stadia.
