Days Gone beats The Division 2 to become UK’s second bestselling game in 2019

Well, here’s some that may surprise you. Days Gone, the open world lovechild of The Walking Dead and Sons of Anarchy, is the second best selling game of 2019 here in the United Kingdom.

That’s according to the latest report from market analysts, GfK Entertainment. In a recent report the company lists the top three best selling games in 16 countries including European and Scandinavian territories, as well as Russia. This data is for the first 6 months of 2019.

Although the report doesn’t provide exact figures for how many copies of PlayStation 4 exclusive were sold Days Gone landed in second place, sandwiched between FIFA 19 and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.

Looking at the chart data, GfK posits that FIFA 19 and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe are proving the most popular with no real surprises from region to region. Barring Days Gone, of course. Kingdom Hearts III seems to have done well in Spain, too.

If the data is correct then that’s a huge win for Sony, even if GfK’s research only tracks physical copies sold. When it launched back in April, Days Gone was met with generally positive reviews (we gave the game a 6/10) though was a big step down from previous first party AAA titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, and Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Developer Bend Studio isn’t exactly the new kid on the block (not with 25 years of working in the games industry under its belt) though Days Gone was much larger in scope than its previous projects. Its most recent games included an Uncharted card game for the PlayStation Vita as well as handheld spin offs in the Uncharted and Resistance franchises.

Banking on new and reinvented IP continues to do wonders for Sony, as this data shows. The platform holder is no doubt expecting similar results from its upcoming AAA exclusives, Ghost of Tsushima and Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding.

Post-launch, Days Gone has continued to receive updates, fixing bugs and adding features such as the extensive challenge mode. The newest challenge added last week turns the zombie shredding game into Crazy Taxi. From what we’v played it’s actually pretty fun!

  1. Glad to hear Days Gone has done well, it’s a game I definitely want to get to at some point.
The sales graphic shows some data that paints an interesting picture.
So The Division 2 didn’t make the top three in any other region shown.
FIFA only didn’t make the top three in Switzerland and Finland but, unsurprisingly I suppose, Brazil had two football games in the top three.
The Switch must be very popular in France, Germany and Switzerland given two of the top three games sold there are exclusive to Nintendo’s console.

  2. This is good news! Meaning Sony hopefully won’t abandon it. The game is nothing but awesome. These reviews it got was biased
