Frostpunk’s frigid city survival is out on console this October

Critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic city simulation and survival game Frostpunk is coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on 11th October, developer 11 bit studios have announced.

Set in a frozen post-apocalyptic wasteland, you take control of the last city on Earth, having to make tough decisions at every turn as you simply try to keep people alive. It garnered a lot of praise on PC, forcing you to choose between schooling children or inducting them into the workforce, between amputating frostbitten limbs or saving yourself the resources and letting them die. How far will you go to survive?

It’s taken a while, with the game originally releasing in April 2018. Frostpunk Senior Lead Designer, Jakub Stokalski explained, “From day one we knew we wanted to bring Frostpunk to consoles. At the same time, we didn’t want it to be just a port. We wanted Frostpunk to feel like a native console experience, so we redesigned pretty much every game element to work intuitively with a gamepad. Among the new, console-specific UI changes we have an express menu for quick access to most common building actions, easy to use choice-wheels, top-down view for precise building placement, upscaled icons, and much more. We truly believe it will become a new benchmark for the genre on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.”

Frostpunk: Console Edition will contain all the previous free updates from the PC version including The Fall of Winterhome scenario, additional customization options, difficulty settings, and balance tweaks. Further content is also planned.

In our PC review, Jason said, “Frostpunk is a horrifyingly playable post-apocalyptic survival game that demands more out of you than most games ever could. Each decision and each sacrifice you make is hard on your city and on you. There are so many impossible choices and no win situations that the game is almost hard to play, but it’s so compelling that you will be unable to step away from it.”

  1. Yes. Been waiting for this since your initial review!

  2. Know I could have been playing on PC, but really want it on console for some reason.
