Watch the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trailer here!

Sony’s State of Play has kicked off in epic fashion with a new trailer for Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Keyboard and mouse support is rather rare on consoles but when it is supported those playing usually have an advantage over those using joypads and Infinity Ward are taking this in to account when matchmaking, including when playing across platforms.

“We’re going to be matchmaking by peripheral, so if you’re a keyboard player you’re going to play with other keyboard players,” explained Design Director Joe Cecot to Dualshockers. “But, if you’re a console player and you’re playing on a gamepad you can actually opt in…We also don’t let you change your controller or peripheral mid-match, so once you’ve chosen it, it’s locked in.”

Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game will support keyboard and mouse controls. The PC version, which is being worked on by Beenox, will also be “fully-optimised” with uncapped frame rates, FOV sliders and widescreen and multi-monitor support.

Infinity Ward were recently criticised for adding a White Phosphorus kill streak to the game. White Phosphorus is a chemical agent that has been banned by many countries as it causes horrific chemical burns. The United States, natch, has not signed up to the ban.

Infinity Ward have justified the inclusion by saying they are creating a “playground to play on”, a statement which seems at odds with their previous claims that they were making the game more realistic. In fact they have just announced a “Realism Mode” which removes all the hit indicators from the game and changes the soundscape of the game.

In a recent blog outlining NPD video game industry analyst, Mat Piscatella estimates that Infinity Ward’s reboot of the popular first person shooter franchise will be 2019’s best selling game in the United States, followed by NBA 2K20 and Madden NFL 20. He notes that while Modern Warfare will soar to the top of this year’s sales charts, it won’t match the runaway success of last year’s Red Dead Redemption 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will hitting the shelves and digital stores on October 25th, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
