Just last week, Paradox Interactive announced Surviving the Aftermath, a follow up to last year’s hardcore colony builder Surviving Mars. Now, at PDXCON 2019, they’ve revealed that the game is heading into Early Access on the Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Preview… today!
Set after the apocalypse, you’re charged with guiding a small colony of survivors, gathering basic resources, converting them into useful tools, items and structures to thrive in the irradiated wilderness. You’ll also venture out to scavenge the surrounding country, occasionally bumping into bandits or meeting characters and groups to trade with.
Surviving the Aftermath hopes to help establish a new ‘surviving’ franchise of management games, this game coming from Iceflake Studios, as opposed to Surviving Mars developer Haemimont Games. As such, they’ll be rather different games, but they are thematically linked by their more survival aspects and tough resource management.
With an Early Access and Game Preview release, they will be able to take on player feedback and refine the gameplay through a year-long development and update program. During this period, the game is priced at $19.99 / £15.49 / €19.99.
“Throughout Surviving Mars’ development we learned the importance of listening to our community and their feedback helped elevate that game to new heights,” said Nikhat Ali, Lead Producer on Surviving the Aftermath at Paradox Interactive. “With Surviving the Aftermath we want to get our players involved as early as possible so we can make sure we’re making the game they want to play. We have an ambitious content schedule ahead of us that includes monthly updates where we will incorporate feedback from our players and we’re confident the team at Iceflake is the right team for the job.”
While it’s only available on Epic Games Store and Xbox One through this phase, the game will also be heading to Steam and PlayStation 4 for the version 1.0 full release, planned for late 2020.
