The much-requested and long-awaited War in the Pacific content update for Battlefield V and the Tides of War has been revealed with a sensational and staggeringly pretty three and a half minute trailer:
The War in the Pacific free update will be dropping next week on 31st October, across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. To celebrate, the game will be having a Free Trial weekend running from 1st-4th November and including all of this new content.
Update: here’s a spec sheet of new contents from EA.
- New maps: Iwo Jima, Pacific Storm (a WW2 themed version of BF4 favourite Paracel Storm), and coming in December, Wake Island.
- New factions: The U.S. and Japan.
- New weapons including the M1 Garand and M1919A6.
- New vehicles including the M4 Sherman tank and the F4U Corsair plane.
- New stationary weapons.
- New gadgets like the Katana and Flamethrower Battle Pickups.
- New Chapter Rewards including weapons, soldier sets, weapon skins, and melee weapons.
As reinforcements, the US side can call upon the Sherman Calliope rocket barrage tank, with an equivalent Japanese vehicle also appearing. Drop-in reinforcements also return, with the JB-2 Rocket and Japanese KI-147 I-Go rockets being the two destructive options, alongside a supply drop, smoke barrage and sector artillery.
There’s a lot to unpack from the trailer, so here’s a big old list of things we spotted:
- There’s new American and Japanese soldier models and uniforms
- There’s aircraft carriers and beach landing craft…
- … which lead to beach landings!
- Rocket artillery
- Japanese Lunge Mines – effectively bombs on sticks, these were kamikaze anti-tank weapons
- Flamethrower tanks and flamethrowers
- Huge sea-defence cannons
- New Reinforcement guided bombs (because having V2 rockets wouldn’t make sense now, would it?) that you can intercept with fighters
- Samurai sword melee weapons
- The beloved M1 Garand
- Bayonet charges
- The Vought F4U/FG Corsair dropping an AMD-N-2 Bat glide bomb – this may be the reinforcement bomb shown earlier in the trailer. (Update: it isn’t)
