Guerrilla Games co-founder Herman Hulst is Sony’s new Head of Worldwide Studios

Sony has had a bit of reshuffling in the Interactive Entertainment department with a new head of Worldwide Studios and a new position have being added. The first bit of news then is that co-founder and former managing director of Guerrilla Games Herman Hulst has now been promoted to Head of Worldwide Studios, which oversees the development of games across 14 studios.

On this promotion Hulst had this to say:

“I have worked closely with PlayStation and the entire Worldwide Studios family since 2001, and I have the utmost respect and admiration for the creative talent and ambitious ideas within the network of studios across the US, Europe, and Japan. I am beyond excited to have the opportunity now to lead such an inspired and talented team whose singular mission is to build amazing games for PlayStation fans.”

The second movement is also a big one Shuhei Yoshida is leaving the role of President of Worldwide Studios to focus on a new initiative within the brand. This role will have Shu working directly with independent developers to give them the tools and platforms they need to bring titles to the PlayStation family of devices. On this change, Jim Ryan, CEO and President of Sony Interactive Entertainment had the following to say.

“I am thrilled to announce Shu Yoshida as head of this new initiative. Everybody knows just how passionate Shu is about independent games – they are lifeblood of the industry, making our content portfolio so special for our gamers. These wildly creative experiences deserve focus and a champion like Shu at PlayStation who will ensure the entire SIE organization works together to better engage with independent developers through a culture of supporting and celebrating their contributions to PlayStation platforms.”

This reshuffle follows the announcement of Shawn Layden’s departure, who left the role of Chairman of Worldwide Studios last month.

  1. Killzone 5 confirmed!
But in some seriousness I think Herman will be a good fit for the role. This is definitely good news going into the new generation, along with Shu heading up the indies.
