Wattam, from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi, is out in December

Wattam, the next game from the mind of Keita Takahashi, finally has a release date. The quirky friend ’em up adventure will be out for PlayStation 4 and PC via the Epic Games Store on 17th December.

It’s been a whopping five years since the next game from the Katamari Damacy and Noby Noby Boy was announced, way back at the first PlayStation Experience in December 2014. It’s a collaboration with thatgamecompany alumnus Robin Hunicke at Funomena, and given those two names, it shouldn’t really be surprising that Wattam is about as charming, cute and barmy as Keita Takahashi’s most notable works.

It’s also basically a cute version of Death Stranding. You play the game in either solo or co-op, going through the four seasons and befriend the various inhabitants of the world, connecting together, not with strands, but by holding hands with trees, flowers, toilets, poops, and, you know, just everything.

The most recent trailer was released for a State of Play stream back in September:

What a load of charming silliness, eh?

The game was originally announced as a PlayStation exclusive with Sony Santa Monica helping out with development but in 2016 it was announced that Wattam was to be a multi-platform game across PS4 and PC. Wattam will be available on the Epic Games Store where it seems to be a timed exclusive.
