UPDATE: We have been contacted by the artist below who has requested we remove the images, which we have done.
Freelance concept artist Rodrigo Idalino uploaded, and rather quickly deleted, some images which he labelled “Playground Games Character concept art test. Art test done a few months ago.” They show a female character and a setting which appears be based on 16th century Europe.
Obviously the internet captured the images before they were deleted, so you can check them out below.
It has also been spotted that Concept Artist at Playground Game Vaigintas Pakenis also uploaded some concept art at the start of the year which looks very Fable-ish.
Microsoft snapped up Forza developer Playground last year and it is widely believed that they are working on the next instalment in the Fable franchise. Some details leaked out in June and it sounds quite different to previous games.
The game set many years after the third game and the Spire, which was found in Fable 2, has been rebuilt and used by the Mad King to crash an asteroid in to Albion and Aurora, wiping them from existence. The new heroes, and Theresa and the Guild, are on a completely different planet which is described as ‘medieval’, so the art above seems to fit that brief.
It is said to be open world, will include multiplayer, have no guns, and will be running on the Unreal engine. As the game seems to be an open secret Xbox top dog Phil Spencer was asked why the game was not shown at this year’s E3 presentation. He said “I love that Fable came to [Xbox One backwards compatibility]. I wantto make sure that when we talk about things to come, whether it’s Fable or not, that the team feels very solid about what they are doing. I will harken back to … the Marvel MMO. Anybody remember us announcing a Marvel MMO? We didn’t even have a team that was signed that would do the Marvel MMO.”
As Fable 4, or whatever it ends up being called, clearly won’t be released for a while there is a good chance it may by a Project Scarlett game.
