20 new Final Fantasy VII Remake screenshots show Aerith’s attacks, Shinra’s building & the train depot

Square Enix have dropped a great big bundle of new screenshots from the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake, showcasing the game’s simply sublime graphical overhaul.

The screens show off the Train Depot area, which has been greatly expanded to feature more dialogue between characters and even a whole new storyline. You also have some nice new renders of President Shinra, Roche and more, a look at the visuals of some of Aerith’s attacks, and finally a look at the Shinra building.

Phew! That’s a lot of screenshots!

The first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake will be launching on PlayStation 4 on 3rd March 2020, allowing players to explore and battle through Midgar, with the game split into a series of releases that revitalise and expand different parts of the original game. Work has already begun on Part II, while FFVII Remake as a whole a timed exclusive to Sony’s platform until 2021, it was recently revealed.

Speaking of the second part, director Tesuya Nomura said:

We’ve already begun working on the next one as well, but I’m confident that playing through this title will expand your expectations just like the world that extends beyond Midgar.

The whole game has been reimagined with revised combat gameplay compared to the original, in addition to the spiffy new graphics. Gone is the turn-based action of before, now with strategic real time combat more in the vein of Dissidia Final Fantasy.

Miguel got some hands-on time with Final Fantasy VII Remake back at E3, saying:

It’s still hard to believe, but this game really is coming. Whether we get one disc or three, the content is bound to be worthwhile if this brief demo was any indication. The decision to shift form turn-based action to something more real time will remain contentious for devout fans, but it’s inventive and rewarding. Square observed the flaws of their action combat from Final Fantasy XV, and improved on every part of it. Having gone hands on, I now can’t wait for even more.

I’m sure he’s not alone in that.

  1. It’s going to be a 3rd of the game. The worst 3rd.

And with some action RPG nonsense instead of turn-based.

And no matter how many times they try and spell it Aerith, it still looks stupid compared to how it was spelled 20 years ago.

But still, it looks nice. Apart from that picture of Sephiroth. What happened there???

  2. I was so skeptical about this with it being one of my favourite games of all time.

But man, it’s hard not to feel so much love for these screenshots. It looks perfect, I just can’t wait to play it!
