Ragnorak gets back Rune II source code and assets

Back in November, there was some odd movement within the games industry. Human Head Studios as an entity was shuttered following the release of Rune II. The immediate shut down of the company threw Rune II publisher Ragnorak as it had no idea that Human Head was going to close, which in turn put the future plans of Rune II at risk. What made the situation even more bizarre is that immediately after closing Human Head the team reorganized as Roundhouse Studios under the ownership of Bethesda. There have been some calls, yet unproven, that Bethesda and Human Head had been planning this switch for some time without consulting Ragnorak, and were looking for a way to get out of the development contract of Rune II.

Following the closure of Human Head Studios Ragnorak stated that it would try and work quickly to resolve any technical issues after being left high and dry. While we don’t know the full story behind the scenes there has been an update from Ragnorak, and that is that they have received the Rune II source code and assets.

Hi everyone. I have tremendous news to share today.

Late last week, we received a hard drive containing the RUNE II assets and source code. We have brought on engineers to check the thoroughness of materials and ensure the hard drive has all RUNE II files.

Currently we have set up a build, test, and staging environment. Once we have confirmed that we are able to make a complete build of the current version of RUNE II (.12L), we are going to begin working on a patch to address the top critical issues, bugs, and optimizations that we have seen reported over the last month and a half. As always, thanks for sticking with us and being fans of RUNE II.

Happy Holidays from myself and the team!

As stated in the message Ragnorak will be looking to patch issues in Rune II, and then likely undertake the development of future content for the game.
