Fire Emblem: Three Houses – Cindered Shadows DLC adds a secret fourth house

The first DLC in the Fire Emblem: Three Houses Expansion Pass has been revealed, with Cindered Shadows set to arrive on 13th February, adding a fourth house to the game.

The Ashen Wolves are revealed in Cindered Shadows, emerging from their underground lair in the Abyss below Garreg Mach Monastery.

“The surface world turned its back on us, and we did the same in return,” explains the trailer, setting the Ashen Wolves as a leaderless house that has no real allegiances, unlike the three houses in the main game. Seemingly outcast from the surface world, you’ll be able to take them under your wing and guide them in battle in a new side story to the game.

Cindered Shadows will round out the Expansion Pass, as the fourth wave of content. Most recently, the pass allowed you to give gifts to cats and dogs around the monastery (which is obviously worth the price of admission on its own). Cindered Shadows is by far the most ambitious wave of content, with new stories, new characters (AKA love interests) and more areas to explore and battle in.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses was one of our favourite games of 2019, winning our Best Nintendo Switch Game category in the Game of the Year awards.

Back in our original review, Dom said, “With the Switch’s delightful dual abilities, Three Houses fittingly bookends the series’ triumphant run on the 3DS and becomes the first big-screen outing in over a decade. It also surpasses them all. A masterpiece of strategy, story-telling and intertwining relationships, Three Houses deserves to make Intelligent Systems a household name.”

The Cindered Shadows announcement came alongside the reveal of Byleth’s addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the fifth Challenger Pack in the game’s first Fighters Pass, and the 80th character overall.
