The writer and director of the 2006 Silent Hill film, Christophe Gans, has said that he is working on a new film based on the Konami franchise. Both projects will be produced by Victor Hadida who’s credits include the previous Silent Hill films and the Resident Evil series of movies.
They are also working on a movie version of the PlayStation 2 game Fatal Frame, aka Project Zero, published by Koei Tecmo.
I have two horror film projects with Victor Hadida. I am working on the adaptation of the video game Project Zero [Fatal Frame]. The film will take place in Japan. I especially don’t want to uproot the game from its Japanese haunted house setting. And we’re also working on a new Silent Hill. The project will always be anchored in this atmosphere of a small American town, ravaged by Puritanism. I think it’s time to make a new one
I rather liked the two Silent Hill movies, like the Resident Evil films they were more ‘inspired by’ rather than direct translations of the video games.
A reboot of the Resident Evil movies was announced just days after the final chapter of the Alice’s story was released in the cinemas but it seems the new film, which does not have a release date at present, does not wipe the slate completely clean and there is a chance of Alice making a cameo. This could be because the new film is going back to the series horror roots and is taking Resident Evil 7 as a ‘touchstone’ rather than frantic gun fights found in Evils 4-6.
“We are in active development of that at the moment. I pitched them a take, and they really loved it. So, we are just gearing up on that as we speak, really,” said the director of the new movie, Johannes Roberts. “I’m in the office all the time there. So, yeah, it’s great. It’s gonna be super scary. It’s super, super scary. And it’s just getting back to the roots of the game. I think, at the moment, I’m not really allowed to say much more than that. But it’s gonna be a lot of fun.”
There are also rumours of a Resident Evil TV show at Netflix although the last that was heard of was almost a year ago and Netflix is littered with zombie shows at present so they may have canned that idea.
Fans of Resident Evil’s Milla Jovovich have the Monster Hunter movie to look forward to this September in which she stars as Captain Natalie Artemis, a member of a United Nations military team.
