Lair of the Clockwork God is getting a flirty visual novel prequel for free

Not content with mashing an indie platformer into a point and click adventure Lair of the Clockwork God, its Dan Marshall and Ben Ward have jumped another genre divide to reveal the prequel visual novel Devil’s Kiss.

The game will chronicle Dan and Ben’s mid-90s meeting at Snootingham High School, and it will be available bundled in for free with every copy of Lair of the Clockwork God. Alternatively, if you just want some VN goodness, it will be priced at $2.

Why Devil’s Kiss as a game title though? Well, you can thank Urban Dictionary for that one:

Well, at least that gives you an idea of the VN’s sense of humour!

It’s been a good decade since Time Gentlemen, Please! and Ben There, Dan That – two games that are almost certainly in your Steam library, somehow – and Dan Marshall and Ben Ward have reunited to create their third and now fourth games. They’re both pretty different to their first two, which were odes to LucasArts Adventures of old.

Lair of the Clockwork God mashes that style with a new indie platformer, as Dan’s character wants to be an indie platforming star, much to the despair of Ben, who absolutely refuses to let his feet leave the floor. The two of them have to overcome and stop all the Apocalypses by teach a computer about feelings, combining their skills together as you switch back and forth between the characters. Of course, Devil’s Kiss is something else entirely!

If either of them seem like your kind of jam, they’re out for PC this week on 21st February, and you can Wishlist Lair of the Clockwork God and Devil’s Kiss on Steam now. Don’t forget that the latter is bundled in with the former.
