Antonio Banderas joins Uncharted movie cast, Ruben Fleischer to direct

A couple of weeks ago Tom Holland confirmed that the Uncharted movie was going to being shooting in mid-March with sets being set up in Germany. Even though that was confirmed the project had no director but right near the last that has been sorted. It has been confirmed that Ruben Fleischer will be taking the director’s seat. He has previously directed Venom, the Zombieland movies, Gangster Squad, and a couple of episodes of Santa Clarita Diet. That is not the only news as Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg cannot be the only cast members for a film like Uncharted, and Variety has revealed who else will be joining them.

Leading the list is Hollywood icon Antonio Banderas though it is unknown what his role will be. Alongside Banderas, Sophia Ali from Grey’s Anatomy, and Tati Gabrielle from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and The 100. Again, we do not know who they will be playing yet. As the movie is a prequel to the games it is very unlikely they will be taking the roles of Elena, who Drake met in the first Uncharted game or Chloe, who did not make her series debut until Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. If they do somehow taking those roles there will be a lot of explaining to do.

According to Tom Holland, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will act as the main inspiration for the younger Nathan Drake though the film will be its own contained story. This will help avoid issues of trying to adapt moments from the games to the films. The Uncharted movie’s release date has been pushed back a number of times. Recently, the movie’s date was pushed back from December 2020 to March 2021. The movie has been a long time coming. So long in fact that Mark Wahlberg was originally considered to play Nathan Drake, and now he is going to be Victor Sullivan.
