HBO and Naughty Dog are partnering up to create a series based upon The Last of Us but there is little detail on how the game will be adapted but it will follow Ellie and Joel. Those parts are yet to be cast. Helming the project is the creator of the hit mini series Chernobyl Craig Mazin, and alongside him will be Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann so this should be as true to the source as it could possibly be. Just to make sure though Naughty Dog president Evan Wells is also on board as an executive producer along with Caroline Strauss.

The show itself will be the first commissioned and produced by PlayStation Productions with Sony Pictures Television also involved. In statement Neil Druckmann said:
“From the first time I sat down to talk with Craig I was equally blown away by his approach to narrative and his love and deep understanding of The Last of Us. With Chernobyl, Craig and HBO created a tense, harrowing, emotional masterpiece. I couldn’t think of better partners to bring the story of The Last of Us to life as a television show.”
Craig Mazin also released a statement and said:
Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the video game medium, and The Last of Us is his magnum opus. Getting a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I’m so honored to do it in partnership with Neil.”
The news comes as we gear up for the release of The Last of Us Part 2 which is coming to PS4 on May 29th. That will be a story of revenge as Ellie goes out hunting those who wronged her while dealing with both established and new dangers of the world in which her and Joel fight to survive.

I loved Chernobyl and Craig Mazin’s approach to it (the podcast was a great insight), so I’ll definitely watch this as soon as it’s out.

This is a very lazy question… what’s the name of the podcast?
I’ll be watching this too, it feels that as a TV series there will be less pressure to do well, less interference from the purse string holders and hopefully that all means we’ll get a more genuine product.
