Resident Evil 4 Remake is apparently in development according to report

Capcom is apparently working on a remake of Resident Evil 4 according to a report by VGC. Apparently, sources have spoken to the site to say that the Resident Evil 4 Remake is now in full production, and is set to be released in 2022. That would make the Resident Evil 4 Remake a game that is going to be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Development itself is allegedly underway at  M-Two, an Osaka based studio that was founded by former PlatinumGames boss Tatsuya Minami. The studio partly worked on the Resident Evil 3 remake.  Shinji Mikami declined the offer to lead the team on working on the remake of the game he originally directed.

While Resident Evil 4 has been ported to various consoles since its 2005 release the game has not been the subject of an absolute full remake. It is likely this remake will follow similar patterns to both the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes with upgraded assets and gameplay changes. It could be a game-changer again like it was in 2005 when it introduced the over the shoulder camera view and changed how action games were played.

If you are curious about how the recent remakes have fared you can check out some impressions from the reviews. In our Resident Evil 2 Remake review Steve wrote:

This Resident Evil 2 remake is a phenomenal update of a classic game. It combines the best of the original’s narrative and puzzles with the ammo crafting of Resident Evil 3 and the action gameplay of Resident Evil 4 to create a hybrid that still manages to feel like classic Resi. Old fans will enjoy the nostalgic retread of Racoon City in all its newfound glory, whilst newcomers will get to experience one of the finest episodes of the series as it should be. The remake has been more than worth the wait, and the evil of the Umbrella Corporation is back in residence at the top of the survival horror pile once more.

Meanwhile, in our Resident Evil 3 Remake review, Nick wrote:

“Capcom have done a marvelous job with Resident Evil 3, reviving another of their beloved survival horror classics and making it feel completely fresh once again. Nemesis is back and he’s here to smash your face in.”
