WARNING: The Last Of Us Part 2 has leaked on to social media

UPDATE: The Last of Us Part II now has a new official release date, click here to find out when it’s coming out! Original story below…

Reports are coming in of videos of The Last of Us Part II leaking on to YouTube, Twitter, and other social media. According to Reddit the videos are from a development build of the game and include  “a lot”, if not all of the cut scenes, menus showing the chapter selections, unfinished multiplayer code, and the entire ending. Some game sites have also posted summaries of the plot so be very careful where you click for the next few days.

Sony have removed the original source of the leak, a YouTube channel, but once something is out on the internet there is spreads faster than coronavirus, copies have been popping up on other video sites and clips on Twitter. We’d suggest you add TLOU2 and associated tags to your mute word list on Twitter, “I stumbled on a tweet that had a fat spoiler as the first sentence,” reports our very own Jim.

The leak allegedly comes from someone employed at Naughty Dog, possibly a QA tester, who has not been paid. As everyone is working from home I would guess they have access to the game their and recording a video is much easier than if they were working at Naughty Dog HQ.

The Last of Us Part II was delayed indefinitely as COVID-19 took hold across the world prompting Naughty Dog to release the following statement.

As you’ve likely just seen, the release of The Last of Us Part II has been delayed. We’re sure this news is just as disappointing to you as it is to us. We wanted to reach out to all of you in our community to give you a little more information.

The good news is, we’re nearly done with development of The Last of Us Part II. We are in the midst of fixing our final bugs.

However, even with us finishing the game, we were faced with the reality that due to logistics beyond our control, we couldn’t launch The Last of Us Part II to our satisfaction. We want to make sure everyone gets to play The Last of Us Part II around the same time, ensuring that we’re doing everything possible to preserve the best experience for everyone. This meant delaying the game until such a time where we can solve these logistic issues.

We were bummed about this decision but ultimately understood it’s what’s best and fair to all of our players. We’re hoping that this won’t be a long delay and we’ll update you as soon as we have new information to share.

We wish you all, your families, and your friends the best of health. Thank you for being amazing fans and your continued support.

Stay safe!

– Naughty Dog

HBO and Naughty Dog are partnering up to create a series based upon The Last of Us but there is little detail on how the game will be adapted but it will follow Ellie and Joel. Those parts are yet to be cast. Helming the project is the creator of the hit mini series Chernobyl Craig Mazin, and alongside him will be Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann so this should be as true to the source as it could possibly be. Just to make sure though Naughty Dog president Evan Wells is also on board as an executive producer along with Caroline Strauss.

  1. Thanks for the heads up, appropriate words and phrases have been muted on twitter and this is the only gaming site I use, so I reckon I’m fairly safe.

As I side note, you guys really need to do something about the adverts that pop up on the site, they’re massively intrusive videos that take up most of the screen on mobile. I’m fairly sure this is stopping a lot of traffic..

    • We’re still trying to find a good balance with video ads for the most regular visitors. That said, they shouldn’t be taking up that much of the screen (less than 1/3rd), they appear without sound, and can be dismissed after a short time. That’s as intended, it’s the frequency with which they appear that could possibly be adjusted.

      • It’s the fact they overlay on top of the page and cover up what you were about to press. It’s hugely annoying.

      • Of course, you probably hate me for the comment below. But I’m willing to contribute, that is not the issue here, just not with accepting intrusive ads.

    • Get a decent mobile (not this iPhone rubbish), root it, put Lineage OS on, never go anywhere near Evil Google, and AdAway and some decent Firefox add-ons will put an end to intrusive ads. I never saw a single such video you describe on TSA.

      • Well I have a very decent mobile, not one of those rubbish iPhones, but I’ll not be rooting it and installing a new operating system, that’s way too much hassle.
