The first next gen screenshots of Lord of the Rings: Gollum have been posted

A new game based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings saga is coming but instead of commanding the armies of Middle-Earth or trekking through Mordor as a fearless ranger, you will be playing as Gollum. The game is being developed by Daedalic Entertainment and will tell a tale of the “disgustingly likeable” Gollum and will serve as a prequel to Lord of The Rings.

The game was announced over a year ago for PC and “all relevant console platforms at that time” and it has now been confirmed that means Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. As you might expect, it’s a stealth game.

It’s a strange and unexpected take on a license that has been passed among several big-name publishers. Daedelic is no doubt wringing its hands at having the chance to explore this character and his dual personality in more depth than has ever been shown. Some of the images seem to show the Mines of Mordor and also a large number of giant spiders so we may be encountering Shelob.

The game has been previewed on but unfortunately most of the information is locked behind a paywall. The gallery is available without the paywall and we have posted a couple below for you to take a look at, for the rest of them click here.

I suppose we should bear in mind the game is still in development but I’m not exactly blown away by those images, what do you think?

We don’t have long to wait to see more next gen games as Microsoft are taking to the stage on May 7th to reveal games for their next console, the Xbox Series X. The event will occur online on at PT which is an extremely friendly 4pm in the afternoon for us Brits.

However, Microsoft have said some next gen games might be delayed due to Covid-19.

News Editor, very inappropriate, probs fancies your dad.

  1. I’m glad you’re not blown away either, it seems weird to share shots where the character seems so simple he’s almost without textures. I’d really like to be blown away by something effects-heavy, super shiny and silky-smooth, fingers crossed for some of that on Thursday! Is there a date for the PS5 reveal yet?

  2. It does seem a bit underwhelming visually, especially given the majesty of the Peter Jackson films. Hopefully it’s an interesting take on mental health through a popular franchise?

  3. Considering it’s made by Daedalic Entertainment, I’d say it looks very good. I expect more of a cartoony feeling from their games, and to me this looks like a perfect mix between cartoon and “AAA” graphics.
