Report: A Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster will be released in less than a year

EA have been talking to investors in one of their regular earnings calls and discussing their upcoming plans.

“We are planning to launch 14 new titles to players this fiscal year,” commented EA chief executive officer Andrew Wilson. “That includes four new EA Sports titles — FIFA, Madden, NHL, and one more unannounced sports game — all of which deliver on the mix of creativity, authenticity, and quality that sets EA Sports apart. … Our FY21 plans also include four more games drawing on the breadth of our IP, from Command & Conquer Remastered to unannounced games for our console and PC players. We’ll have more games from indie developers launching this year through EA Partners, and two new mobile titles leveraging top IP that we’ll bring to players worldwide.”

According to Venturebeat the eigth title out of those fourteen games is a “HD remake of an EA game”, “and that HD remaster of an EA game is the Mass Effect Trilogy.”

A remaster of the Mass Effect series has been something fans have been asking about for years and although Mass Effect Andromeda was deemed to be a failure by some EA has said that it “actually performed really well.” If the report is true the remaster will be out by March 2021 which means it could be a very, very shiny remaster and launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X

Mass Effect Andromeda was meant to get story DLC to continue the plot but it was cancelled. Bioware’s Casey Hudson posted a short blog discussing Anthem, which the studio was working on, and briefly mentioned the Mass Effect: Adromeda’s DLC.

“When I returned to BioWare last summer, Mass Effect: Andromeda had just been released and there was a significant movement among players asking for a story DLC that would answer questions surrounding the fate of the quarians,” posted Casey. “As you know, we were not able to deliver story DLC for Andromeda—this was as frustrating for us as it was for players, and it was something we knew we had to solve in future games.”

He describes this event as “a defining moment in refocusing BioWare’s mission” and went on to say Anthem will be “unlike anything you’ve played, but if we do it right, it will feel very distinctly BioWare.”

That went well then.

  1. I only got into the Mass Effect universe when the third game was free on PS+ so I would welcome a remaster of the earlier games.

  2. I can’t believe it’s taken them this long to be honest. The game’s are out-and-out classics, and I’d love to play them all again. Particularly if they buff the first one’s controls up a bit.
