DayZ had “hundreds of thousands” of new players after game hit Xbox Game Pass

Bohemia Interactive has revealed that when DayZ joined the Xbox Game Pass line up just over a week ago, hundred of thousands of new players joined the game to check it. That made it one of the most played games on Xbox One. Game Pass subscribers have access to the base DayZ experience but will have to pay extra for the Livonia DLC. On this early success for DayZ on GamePass Vojtěch Ješátko, Bohemia Interactive’s Publishing Director, said:

Xbox Game Pass is a great opportunity for us to open the game to a different audience, and to let a massive number of new players experience DayZ in all its crude harshness and beauty, together with the veterans . Over the years, DayZ has gone through a difficult development, but at Bohemia Interactive, we never lost faith in the game – so seeing its record player numbers across all platforms is a very rewarding moment for the whole team. For us, it also confirms that DayZ still remains an unmatched and unforgettable survival experience.”

Of course, whether this success will continue to occur will not be known for sometime as player numbers will need to be tracked over the long term. Recently, Bohemia Interactive closed down its Bratislava studio but affirmed that the closure would not impact the continued development of DayZ. Bohemia Interactive also stated that the impact of COVID-19 would likely be minimal when it came to releasing updates and content for the game, with staff working from home for the foreseeable future.

The most recent update was 1.13 which saw a few small fixes and those were:

FIXED

  • Fixed: A common server crash
  • Fixed: An exploit for item duplication
  • Fixed: Exploitable collisions in civilian buildings
  • Fixed: A client error related to the cable reel
  • Fixed: Occupied wheel slots on vehicles would still display the “Attach” prompt
