Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 will not launch with microtransactions, but may come afterwards

Last week, Activision and Vicarious Visions announced a remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 which sees the classic skateboarding titles get a fresh overhaul to bring it up to today’s standards. Now, details have started to come out regarding what players can expect when it comes to content and how it is accessed. For a start, everything in the game will be unlockable at launch. That will mean all skaters, cosmetics, and skating areas can be gained without having to put more money down. However, should demand be there Vicarious Visions will add premium content that people could purchase with real money.

In an interview with Gamespot Jen Oneal, boss of Vicarious Visions said:

“Everything that you see at launch is going to be unlocked with gameplay. We’re not planning on having monetization at launch.”

As the game is being published by Activision and with Activision pursuing in game transactions as a revenue stream, the likelihood of premium content being added later is high. Further in the interview, Jen confirmed that most of the songs from the original soundtrack would return but not all of them due to licensing issues. Additionally, there were hints about cross platform play but that is yet to be confirmed by either Activision or Vicarious Visions.

Vicarious Visions will be taking the original levels, skaters, tricks and more and bringing the games flip-kicking and rail screaming into the modern day with levels that have been recreated from the ground up. They’re also bringing in features from the rest of the franchise, including reverts, lip tricks, wall plants and multiplayer, with support for both online and local couch multiplayer. Create-A-Park and Create-A-Skater are back, with the ability to share your parks online with friends.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1&2 will be released on September 4th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
