Check out Observer: System Redux next-gen gameplay, coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X this year

Bloober Team have shown off Observer: System Redux, a next-gen remaster of the team’s 2017 cyberpunk horror game. The game’s stuffed with tons of graphical enhancements to take advantage of next-gen systems, including ray tracing for more atmospheric lighting.

The game has been given a major graphical overhaul, effectively being rebuilt from the ground up. There’s 4K textures, higher quality animations and models, upgraded particle effects, and tapping into HDR and ray-tracing alongside volumetric lights and global illumination. The game will run at 4K and with 60fps on next-gen consoles.

The System Redux version of the game will have new story content and expanded gameplay. Future reveals are planned to dig further into the enhancements and new content.

Observer follows Dan Lazarski, an Observer, who has been voiced by the late Rutger Hauer. In the game, Dan Lazarski is an investigator who can view the memories and thoughts of suspects. The setting is the year 2084 and it follows an incredibly dark period for humanity where thousands were killed by a virus brought on by human augmentation. As Observers have some augmentations they are not popular among the rest of the population.

If you don’t like ‘walking sims’ then Observer isn’t going to change your mind, even if it does include some rudimentary detective work. However, if you like to be swept away by a story and pulled in to a world where every door has a new experience behind it, then close the curtains, turn off the lights, crank up the surround sound and immerse yourself in this great cyberpunk horror tale.

Bloober Team have carved out a niche for themselves within the horror game genre since their popular 2016 game Layers of Fear, following an artist as they struggled with a torturous mental block. That was followed by the cyberpunk styled Observer in 2017, before last year saw them tackle acting and arts in Layers of Fear 2 and create an original tale in the Blair Witch universe. Alongside Observer: System Redux, they’re working on The Medium for Xbox Series X and PC, an exclusive to Microsoft’s platforms.
