Hitman III announced for current and next-gen, uniting the trilogy in January 2021

IOI Interactive have announced Hitman III, the final game in the World of Assassination trillogy that they kicked off in 2016. The game will be out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One and PC in January 2021.

The game is pitched as featuring Agent 47’s most intimate contract yet, starting with the infamous assassin “on top of the world” after his exploits in the last two games. He’s now partnered up with Lucas Grey, aiming to take down the partners of Providence, forever changing the world order in the process.

“HITMAN 3 has a much darker tone than the previous games in the trilogy”, said Mattias Engström, Game Director. “On top of the core Hitman experience, we are mixing in some surprise elements, an evocative atmosphere and a very real sense of closure.”

The game will feature six new locations at launch, once again packed with tons of creative opportunities to complete the murderous objectives. One location has been confirmed so far: Dubai.

Hitman 2 landed at the end of 2018, ditching the controversial episodic release model of the 2016 reboot in favour of a more conventional one and done approach. One thing that Hitman 2 did brilliantly was wrap its updated technology and gameplay around the old, letting players import the missions from the first game to play through the entire story so far.

Hitman 3 will allow you to do exactly the same, allowing you to play all 20 locations from the trilogy together. Hitman 2 players will also be able to carry forward their unlocks and progression into the final game.

I reviewed Hitman 2 back in 2018, saying, “Building on the foundations of the 2016 game, Hitman 2 is full of the best Hitman stealth action yet. Yes, it’s evolutionary in some ways, and you have to accept the series’ idiosyncratic take on the genre, but there’s space for it to keep growing with the return of Escalation missions and continuing Elusive Contracts. Whether you’re a blackmailing pink flamingo, throwing briefcases at people, or getting robots to do your dirty work, the satisfaction of an expertly planned and executed hit is like nothing else.”

Here’s to more of that in January.

  1. Not only is it for PS5 and PS4, but they’re doing the same thing they did with the second game letting you play everything from the first game. So we get all 3 games on the PS5.
