Set in a supernatural slant on the Wild West, Weird West is coming from some of the masters of the immersive sim genre. The game ships in 2021, but a demo will be released in the coming months.
Weird West takes some of the foundations of the immersive sim, where so much of the world is interactive and reactive to what you do, and melds it with more of an action RPG slant. There’s all sorts of supernatural twists to the Wild West setting, with werewolves, ogres and more.
The game features five playable characters, moving from one character to the next, but then being able to go back and recruit your former character. The intention is that, if you die, you simply carry the story forward with the next character. Some elements will be randomised with each playthrough.
Wolfeye Studios is made up of ex-Arkane allumni, including former creative director Raphael Colantonio and producer Julien Roby. They departed in 2017, taking two years to announce the creation of WolfEye Studios in November 2019 and reveal Weird West at last year’s game Awards.
