For Honor Warden joins Samurai Shodown as DLC

Well, here’s a crossover we weren’t expecting to see. Publishers Ubisoft and SNK have teamed up to bring For Honor’s Warden to the Samurai Shodown roster.

Available as of today, Warden brings his two-handed sword to the brilliant weapon based fighter as DLC which launched year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Of course, For Honor’s Warden plays a little differently in Samurai Shodown compared to his native fighting game. There’s an obvious transition from 3D stance-based battling to the traditional 2D style though fans of For Honor will notice that Warden’s two dimensional moveset mirrors some of his familiar attacks including the shoulder charge.

Here’s a little more on the For Honor hero’s backstory from SNK:

“A lone swordsman from a faraway land sworn to protect both land and people. Many of their kind set out to become the embodiment of high honor and nobility, though few have accomplished such a feat. This warrior in particular embarked on a journey to find an opponent truly worthy of their loyalty. Their sworn allegiance to the people burns like a brand as they set out onto the battlefield.”

Warden is available as standalone DLC or as part of the Samurai Shodown season pass. Buying the For Honor fighter will set you back $5.99/€5.99 with the pass priced at 13.99/€13.99 on PlayStation 4 or 19.99/€19.99 on other platforms. This season pass also unlocks Sogetsu and Iroha.

Samurai Shodown slashed its way to an impressive 8/10 in our review from Nick who had the following to say:

Samurai Shodown is a strong entry into the sea of fighters, showing a lot of love for the original series, while also being able to appeal to newcomers. A few niggles aside, people are going to be playing Sam Show for a long time. EVO just got more exciting to watch!

Naturally, some fighting game fans are wondering whether this surprise DLC could hint at crossover characters appearing in For Honor. Two heroes are due to be added to the game in 2020 with Ubisoft unveiling the first of these in August.
