What We Played #477 – Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls & COD Black Ops Cold War

Spider-Man Miles Morales Header

It feels like everyone is ploughing through the new-gen releases this week, as more and more people I know have popped the Astro’s Playroom platinum, and seen off the Miles Morales story. I’ve been too busy to play all that much this week, but I did clear every artefact and find every jigsaw piece in Astro so I don’t have too far to go there. Otherwise I’ve played some Sackboy with my sons, and they – and I – love it. It’s been a nice and chilled game to get together and play, and the music is fantastic!

Steve was the first to drop in this week, and he’s had a quieter one too, having been on the ‘GaaS’ grind of grading/marking papers taking precedent. “I’ve managed a couple of hours of the intense Visage – review to come – which is a genuine nerve-shredder. Also put a lot of commuting time into Wordament on Android and, despite the cool games I really want to play on Switch, working through the nostalgically retro Goblin’s Sword. Hoping to get stuck into Twin Mirror later after the last batch of papers.”

Meanwhile, Reuben has been having a great one, tucking into the usual suspects of Final Fantasy XIV and Hades, alongside Miles Morales, finishing Astro’s Playroom, ploughing through more of Tears of Avia (review incoming), and getting all emotional over Ori and the Will of the Wisps (as you will too when you play it).

Jason has been playing some Rocket League for a change of pace and has achieved Diamond rank in 3s now, saying it’s “a big old step up from my peak of Silver last season. Other than that I’ve been playing some stuff I’m not allowed to talk about. Exciting.”

After his launch day woes with Amazon, Nic B’s PS5 miraculously turned up letting him smash through Astro to start the week, “which is fantastic.” He then picked up Miles Morales and still had time for the odd game of Magic. Aran is reviewing Immortals Fenyx Rising, but that’s all we can tell you for now.

Jim has mostly been playing Demon’s Souls this week, “slowly chipping away as I improve my character build and fell one boss at a time. It’s a phenomenally obtuse RPG and I’d be very interested to know how it’s done – sales wise – considering how it’s not very casual friendly. I’ve also been hopping between the superb Dirt 5 and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. In the latter, I’ve gone exploring my home county of Oxfordshire for loot while crossing off even more of Valhalla’s quirky side missions.”

Gareth has been playing Chicken Police for review and Watch Dogs Legion of fun. “The latter is taking absolutely ages because I keep distracted by side missions and real life. Found a man holding a cone just walking around Westminster the other day, not sure what he was planning.”

Miguel has been messing around a bunch in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, saying “it’s got an AMAZING story campaign but the multiplayer has been super addictive too! I’ve also been playing a lil Animal Crossing, some Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memories, aaand a little Noita”

And to round things out, Tuffcub has played Destiny 2 and “Hot Beardy Men Do Manly Stuff (aka Assassin’s Creed Valhalla)”, while Tef has been playing a bunch of things off and on, including Dirt 5, AC Valhalla, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5 and more. He’s also terraforming Mars in Per Aspera for a review next week.

Now it’s your turn, what have you played?

  1. Ohhhhh where to begin!!! My PS5 arrived a day late and have been playing Miles Morales of the weekend which I nabbed my 500th Platinum ?
Play Astro’s Playground and that Dualsense is insanely amazing! Astro Plat become number 501
Booted up MK11 and my trophies started to pop randomly and I didn’t know it was shared across from PS4 so got another quick plat on that lol. Decided to look into Spiderman Remastered and got an instant Plat which brings it up to 503 (Will play the game again on New Game plus with a new difficulty that I never got around to on the PS4) . Got a heads up from Iain Wilson (Wilbossman) on Cencept Destruction a game I have already got the Plat on PS4 became no. 504 on the PS5 free upgrade version! Happy Days! Oh got Watchdogs Legion Platinum on PS4 after Miles Morales and lo and behold some of the trophies just started popping on the PS5 free upgrade version and thanks to TSA on the news on Valhalla once I obtained the Platinum on the PS4 version
    Been trophy hunting alot haha.
This weekend will be Call of Duty: Cold War, Watchdogs Legion both on PS5 and hopefully nab the Platinum on Watchdogs this weekend.
I then will continue Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on PS4 :)

    • More Far Cry 5 for me. I found someone to help me nab the co-op trophies, which was nice!

      • Thanks and yeah it is confusing how these work. But now I think if you have a PS4 version and get the free upgrade it will count ad a separate trophy list. So for example I have been waiting for a price drop on Maneater but heard it will have a PS5 version….. so cheaper to buy in PS4 and play it on PS4 to get a Plat then upgrade to PS5 with save transfer support for instant Plat otherwise have to play through them all again (I am playing Watchdogs Legion again but on PS5)
Kept thinking if I have Miles Morales PS5 Plat. What if I buy a PS4 version of the game will I get another Platinum added to the list? Time will tell xD

    • So, it worked out as planned, getting your 500th on the PS5, congratulations..! ?
Not sure I understand how you got PS5 trophies for games you had already played on your PS4. Didn’t happen with the games I played on PS5, and I guess it isn’t supposed to work this way.

      • It’s always been a bit complicated with trophies and multiple platform versions. Some games have had a single, shared trophy list, others have had PS3/PS4/Vita lists. Some games would let you upload your save and import it into a different version. At which point the trophies may all have popped up at once. Or they might not have done that.

It seems to be entirely up to the developer to decide if they want a shared or multiple trophy lists. (Or more likely it’s up to the developer to decide what they want to ask Sony to let them do). And up to them how they handle the multiple trophy lists. Hand out all the trophies once you load the save in a different version? Or make you do it all again. Or sometimes make you do whatever would trigger the trophy to be awarded, even if you’ve done it all already. (If you need to kill 1000 enemies, and you load the save into a different version after you’ve done that and got the trophy, you might need to kill 1 more to get the trophy a second time)

Miles Morales has separate trophy lists for the PS4 and PS5 version, and it looks like loading a PS4 save into the PS5 version gives you an instant second platinum. But I’m not sure you can export saves back from the PS5 version to get the PS4 trophies if you want to do the PS5 version first.

  2. I’ve not had that much playtime, but was mostly playing AstroBot, which is truly excellent, I keep discovering fun stuff. Will soon return to Demon’s Souls, am looking forward to that.

But, I’ve still not got used to the mess the PS5 UI is. Whether I go to ‘Games’, ‘Media’, ‘Search’ or press the PS button, most of my PS5 screen always displays ads and stuff they want to sell me, or shows me ‘official news’ of Fortsh**te, a game I’m not actually playing. There seems to be no way to get rid of all the ads on the PS5 UI, the only ad-free zone is ‘Settings’ and that is very annoying… ?

  3. Hyrule Warriors. Enjoying it way more than I thought I would. My son is playing Lego City Undercover, so been helping him with the tricky bits.

  4. After the PS5 camera adaptor arrived last week, but no PS5, I’m happy to report that this week sees the arrival of…

A bunch of PS5 icons on my friends list, just taunting me with the fact that Sony fucked up so badly with the supply.

So, once again, see my list of things from a couple of weeks ago now.

Finished off Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Which was quite fun. Except once it gets really good, you just get 2 shorter levels and it ends. And wall-running needs to stop being a thing.

  5. I’m a bit late for the WWP but made some significant progess in the Bloodborne save i had abandoned more than a year ago! I conquered Yahargul – well, i ran past the mobs and stumbled off a ledge which led me to a means to progress. Now i have access to the upr Cathedral ward and Nightmare of Mensis and almost defeated the One Reborn on my first attempt. The game has opened up again for me after all this time. :)

  6. Just started up Bugsnax so been going through that this weekend. Also finishing up the mini missions on Spider-man Miles Morales after completing the main campaign during the week.
