Microsoft have revealed the Games with Gold line up for January, with what’s probably the best selection of games they’ve given away for quite some time.
As always there’s two Xbox One games and two backward compatibility titles – this time one Xbox 360 and one Xbox – spread out through the month. You get the games bundled in with an Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
There’s an unusually dark and morbid tone to January’s selection of games. Still, maybe that’s what you want for the start of what’s going to be another gruelling year?
- Little Nightmares – 1st to 31st January
- Dead Rising – 16th January to 15th February
- The King of Fighters XIII (Xbox 360 BC) – 1st to 15th January
- Breakdown (Xbox 360 BC) – 16th to 31st January
Little Nightmares’ inclusion absolutely makes sense with the sequel to Tarsier’s horror platformer coming out in February. That’s joined by Dead Rising’s remaster for the now last-gen consoles, so there’s two games that would probably be more appropriate for October, rather than January!
When Little Nightmares was released back in 2017 Tuffcub wrote in the review:
Little Nightmares is something of a minor classic. Gorgeously gross and surprisingly inventive, it creates a genuine feeling of terror and tension. It’s a bit odd to say a game that involves skipping over corpses is enjoyable, but it is, just don’t blame Tarsier if you have nightmares.
A TV show based on Little Nightmares is also supposed to be in production, but things seem to have gone quiet on that front.
In terms of backward compatible titles, there’s The King of Fighters XIII from Xbox 360 and Breakdown from the original Xbox.
There’s a week or so left to snap up the games from December’s Games with Gold, which currently gives you:
- The Raven Remastered – until 31st December
- Bleed 2 – until 15th January
- Stacking (Xbox 360 BC) – until 31st December
Grab them while you can!
