Zenith: The Last City is coming to PlayStation VR alongside Steam VR, Oculus Quest and Rift, hoping to create a breakout MMORPG designed from the ground up for virtual reality. The game is planned for release in 2021, with details of pre-orders and closed alpha testing expected tomorrow.
Set generations after an event know as The Fracture, you’ll journey through the world of Zenith trying to prevent the cataclysm from occurring again. You’ll battle humans and gods, using the power of Essense to grow more and more powerful as you play in a fashion inspired by JRPGs.
Getting around the world has been designed with full freedom of movement in mind, so you can use your hands to climb up any surface, whether it’s a giant cliff face or a skyscraper in the central futuristic city of Zenith. The only thing to beware of is your limited stamina (because we can have unlimited fun it seems). In another Breath of the Wild-esque decision, you’ll also be able to glide through the world, getting around the map quicker or dropping in on enemies.
Zenith’s combat is based around simple elements of throwing, blocking and dodging, instead of MMORPG keybinds. You’ll be able to master swordplay and magic as you gain experience, and kit yourself out with more powerful weapons and abilities. You will have a character class, but roles are separate to this, so a tank-y character can be an Essence Mage, or you can have a Blade Master as a healer.
Of course, this in an MMORPG, and social gameplay is at Zenith’s heart. There will be plenty of party-based content so you can buddy up to take on public events, dungeons and battle world bosses. A guild system will also be included so you can have a regular group of organised players.
