Oddworld: Soulstorm out now – Download April’s PlayStation Plus games here

April’s selection of free PlayStation Plus games are now live, headlined by the long in development Oddworld: Soulstorm, a modern remake of PS1 classic Oddworld: Abe’s Exxodus. It’s joined by a pair of great zombie games, with PlayStation exclusive Days Gone and co-op shooter Zombie Army 4: Dead War, both for PS4.

Here’s the download links for April’s PlayStation Plus games:

Note: Only the PS5 version of Oddworld: Soulstorm is being included in PlayStation Plus. The game is also on sale for PS4 and PC. All three games will be available from 6th April to 3rd May.

Soulstorm is a remake of the second Oddworld game, following on from the New ‘n’ Tasty remake of the original. In it Abe finds himself the unwitting leader of a revolution, forced to lead the fight against the all-powerful Glukkons. The game’s side-scrolling platforming is given more depth than ever before with what Oddworld Inhabitants call ‘2.9D’ platforming, building the game world out into the third dimension to make the world more immersive. We’re working out our review right now, so keep an eye out for that sometime soon.

Alongside Oddworld: Soulstorm, Sony have bundled up a pair of zombie games for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Days Gone is a PS4 exclusive from 2019, but it’s a great way to show what the PS5 can do thanks to an update that lets you play the game at 60fps on the new consoles. However, it’s already being given away to PS5 owning subscribers via the PlayStation Plus Collection, so this feels like more of a freebie for the over 100 million PS4 owners out there.

In our Days Gone review, Jim wrote:

There are glimmers of true excellence here; small stretches of Days Gone can be especially fun and polished. However, the assembly of these various parts suffers from the lack of an engaging story, compelling characters, or an open world that feels organic and worth exploring.

Don’t sleep on Zombie Army 4: Dead War, by the way, it’s a lot of fun if you can get a good co-op group together to blast through some undead Nazis. The game follows on from Zombie Army Trilogy, but you really don’t need to have played that game to get the gist of what’s going on, and it’s really all about going on a four player romp through a Nazi zombie-infested Italy and beyond.

I said in our Zombie Army 4: Dead War review:

If you like shooting zombies with friends, then Zombie Army 4: Dead War is the game for you. There’s a few new twists and several layers of progression now thrown into the mix, as you battle undead Nazis once again, but this is classic undead sniping action through and through.

  1. I find it disappointing that we get a game which we (or some of us) already got, Days Gone. So, is it one less PS Plus game each month from now on, as we’ll also be likely to get (again) God of War, The Last Guardian, etc. ? I don’t tend to moan about Plus as many others do, but this feels lame.

    • I’m balancing it with the brand-new Soulstorm. Would be happy with that kind of set-up if we get something like that or Destruction All-Stars every month.

      • Yeah, I just realised we had some extra VR games last month, maybe I’m just becoming an old grumpy git now. And I’ll never get around to actually playing all that content anyway…
