Blizzard have announced that their first Diablo II Resurrected technical alpha test will be taking place this weekend. Running from Friday, April 9th, through til next Monday, April 12th, this alpha will be your first opportunity to go hands on with the remastered dungeon crawling epic. It also should be noted that the Diablo II Resurrected alpha is for PC players only – hopefully console tests will be hosted at some point later this year.
In order to get into the Diablo II Resurrected alpha you will require an invite so make sure you’ve scoured your inbox – Blizzard sent invites to those who pre-registered via the official Diablo II website. Don’t worry if you didn’t get an invite – Blizzard have promised more tests (including a multiplayer preview) further down the line.
So, what can we expect from this early Diablo II alpha? Well, it’s singleplayer only, allowing you to brave two acts from the action RPG with a choice of three available classes. These include the classic Barbarian, Sorceress, and Amazon. Any progression you make during the alpha will not be carried into future versions of the game. For more on the alpha and its contents check out the FAQ.
Blizzard have previously confirmed that Diablo II Resurrected will take advantage of new PC and console tech to deliver high performance, including 4K support. Besides the PC version, you can expect to play Diablo II Resurrected on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
All visuals have been remastered including the heroes, monsters, environments, and spells. Blizzard have also stated that Diablo II Resurrected will have cross progression support so you will not lose saves should you play the game on different platforms. There are enhanced gameplay elements too including improved ladder seasons which will have regular restarts so players can battle each other to the top. The user interface has been improved to so it should be easier to see and manage your stats. The Stash amount has also been increased, and there is a shared stash that can be used for all characters on a single Battle.net account.
There’s no solid release date for the remaster though expect it to launch some time in 2021.
