Sony confirm the existence of the PlayStation Plus Video Pass, currently under test

Three days ago the logo for PlayStation Plus Video Pass featured in a Polish PlayStation promotion that was quickly taken down. The service seemed to be offering movies from Sony Films back catalogue  as part of a PlayStation Plus subscription with titles such as Venom, Zombieland Double Tap and Bloodshot of offer.

Sony have now confirmed that they are testing this new service and it should be live right now now, but only in Poland. It will offer over twenty movies and television shows with new content being added every three months. Nick Maguire, Vice President, Global Services, SIE, spoke to Polish site Spidersweb.pl and had this to say (via Google Translate).

“Together with Sony Pictures Entertainment, we are launching a 12-month test benefit for the PS Plus service available in Poland, called PlayStation Plus Video Pass. This is a streaming application that PS Plus owners can download to PS4 and PS5 consoles from the PS Store, gaining access to high-quality video production, all as part of the existing PS Plus program.”

The PlayStation Plus Video Pass is real!

“To start, PlayStation Plus Video Pass in Poland offers fifteen films and six series,” he added. “Including great cinema hits such as Bloodshot, Blade Runner 2049 or the well-known Venom, which, according to my data, has earned a large audience in Poland. In turn, the comedy series SuperMansion will have its official Polish premiere on the PlayStation Plus Video Pass. Personally, I will reach for the movie Baby Driver first.”

Poland has been chosen for the test due to the large player base, their activity on social media, and apparently “they also like to use VoD platforms.” Nick would not reveal exactly why Poland has been chosen other than “Poland meets all the criteria that are important to us.”

The good news is that PlayStation Plus Video Pass will be part of the existing PS Plus subscription, it will not cost any more. Here are the shows available in Poland, for free, right now.

  1. Seems like a nice little extra bit of content to me, I definitely wouldn’t want to pay for another subscription but a few free films and series a year definitely adds value to Plus. With regards to Poland, they’re in lockdown again and the news we get from my wife’s family isn’t great, so if in choosing Poland Sony are showing some awareness of who (out of a list of streaming-loving western countries) could do with more home entertainment then they deserve a pat on the back.
