Outriders inventory item restoration should be completed today

People Can Fly has finally restored inventory items to Outriders players affected by the inventory wiping bug that affected the game in early April. The restoration follows on from the patch that prevented the issue from recurring, which was released on 15th April.

Breaking users into three groups, the process started on Wednesday 5th May with Group A players that were completely unable to play the game, before yesterday turning to Group B who lost items. Group C are users that are largely unaffected, but who might have items restored anyway. The process should be completed sometime today.

Group A restoration was for users who encountered a wipe and had “Couldn’t Connect to Server” errors preventing them from playing. The following steps have now been taken:

  • All items, regardless of rarity, that were equipped at the time of your inventory wipe will be restored.
  • All legendary items that were in your inventory.
  • For non-Legendary items: 20 previously acquired items that were in your inventory, with first prioritization based on rarity (descending from Epic rarity) and second prioritization based on date acquired.
  • All fully completed Accolades will be restored if you previously reached the final tier of said Accolade.
    • Interim tiers and progress towards any tier of an Accolade cannot be recovered.

Restoration is not 100% accurate, but PCF hope to have accounted for the most valuable items. If your inventory is full, restored items are being held server side.

For Group B, these users were still able to play, but had some lost items prior to 20th April. For these users restoration accounts for:

Group C is basically everyone else that was unaffected by the issues. However, because PCF cannot conclusively divide the two groups, some Group C players will also benefit. You might receive up to 20 ‘God Rolled’ Legendary items that were previously sold to a vendor. Dismantled items will not be restored, as these can be tracked through PCF’s analytics.

Hopefully this is now the end of a tricky situation that People Can Fly has had to navigate. The game is a decent example of the looter shooter and drew many players through its release directly into Xbox Game Pass, however, with server issues preventing play at launch, bugs and technical issues, and then the inventory loss troubles, many players will have been pushed away.

Still, there’s a good game there. In our Outriders review, Jim said:

Outriders juggles some truly captivating ideas for the looter shooter genre, yet fails to deftly execute them. While it succeeds in combining traditional third person shooting with rewarding dungeon crawling, its messy matchmaking, repetitive mission design, and a dull sci-fi story hold People Can Fly back from delivering to their fullest potential.
