Horizon Forbidden West still on track to launch this year

We have seen very little of Horizon Forbidden West since it was announced and many people are worried it may miss it’s target release date of this year, but those worries seem unfounded. Wired spoke to Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan and during the interview it was confirmed that the game was still going to be released this year.

Guerrilla studio director Angie Smets also spoke about the Dualsense controller and how it brings the game alive. ”If you want to take a stealth approach to a combat situation and you dive into long grass,” she said, “you can feel those long grass leaves.”

Hermen Hulst, a Guerrilla cofounder and now PlayStation Studios head added “I spent some time yesterday with Horizon Forbidden West for the first time in seven or eight months. To step away and to come back to it? Talk about giving me a gift.”

There’s a pretty obvious reason why Sony are keeping quiet on Horizon Forbidden West and it’s cute and furry – Ratchet & Clank. They will be focussing all their marketing and PR on that game which is out in June, and as soon as that is out of the door I would expect the Forbidden West hype machine to kick in to gear.

Horizon Zero Dawn sequel Horizon Forbidden West was revealed during the PS5 event and will see Aloy and the mechanical creatures arrive on the console in a big way. Guerrilla Games has released two screenshots that show very different areas of Horizon Forbidden West. The first shows a downed plane in a waterfall surrounded by greenery and what appears to be machine pterodactyl. The second is in the desert and seems to show some kind of encampment.

Sony have confirmed d Horizon Forbidden West will all be cross-gen releases, coming to PS4 as well as PS5 and they will offer free upgrades from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, whether you buy digitally or physically.

  1. Good good, the sooner Forbidden West (and R&C) launches the sooner it’ll get some kind of sales discount.
Just off to play some Zero Dawn, my PS app says it’s ready to play :)

  2. I’ve been enjoying Horizon Zero Dawn since it’s been part of Sony’s Days of Play but it’s a shame that today is the last day and I’m nowhere near completing it.

    • Is it not just like PS+ though? If you download it, you get to keep it. It’s just today is the last day you can download it.

      • With PS+ you only get to keep it as long as you’re still paying for PS+.

The “Play at Home” thing they’ve been doing (not “Days of Play”, that’s something different) gave us properly free things. So as long as you downloaded HZD, you can play it forever. Or for however long it takes to finish. Or however long it takes to get the main story out of the way and decide you’re not going to bother hunting down a million icons on a map while trying to resist the temptation to throw your character off a cliff because you can and she probably deserves it for being terrible.

      • That’s great, thanks for letting me know. I can take my time which is what I like to do.
Play at Home is what I meant.

  3. I really loved the first game – I find the combat endlessly fun. I have high hopes for the sequel!
