2K and HB Studios has announced new content for their golf game PGA Tour 2K21: basketball. That is to say that they’re adding logoed gear for all 30 NBA teams into the PGA Tour title, as part of a crossover from 2K’s sporting game series.
I’m hoping there’s a little more variety to the gear that’s actually on offer, beyond just having an NBA team logo on a black top, but both shirts and hats will be available for your MyPLAYER characters through the in-game shop.
The newly announced cosmetics come just as EA Sports made a big announcement for their rival golf game, declaring that they had secured the exclusive license for the four Major Championships that are part of the yearly golfing tour for the in-development title. While both 2K and EA have licenses for the overarching PGA Tour, the four Majors in PGA Tour 2K21 are fictionalised versions of themselves, while EA now has the actual Masters Tournament, PGA Championship, U.S. Open Championship, and The Open Championship.
This brewing rivalry to be the best golf game is unexpected, but a welcome one for golf fans who were short on options through the PS4 and Xbox One generation. Here’s hoping the competition spurs both development teams to more innovation and better representations of the sport.
PGA Tour 2K21 came out in August last year, rebranding The Golf Club to put the PGA license front and centre. In our review, Nick said:
PGA 2K21 gives a damn fine game of golf. It controls solidly and there’s a good learning curve as you get to grips with the more advanced types of shot. Despite that, I can’t help but be a little disappointed with the feel of the overall experience. What should have been a hole in one return of a licensed golf series feels like it’s only just managing to hit par.
