Sable release date confirmed for September – Try the demo on Xbox now

The incredibly chilled open world exploration of Sable will be releasing for PC, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on 23rd September. The game will also be a part of Xbox Game Pass.

Update: The Xbox demo is available now, though Steam players will seemingly have to wait until next week.

Sable is a coming-of-age story where you set out and explore a gorgeously stylised alien planet. You’ll explore ancient monuments, ruined architecture and wrecked ships that have fallen to ground from outer space, all determining the future path that you will take.

You can explore at your own pace, gliding, climbing and travelling on foot as you wish, but you can also hop onto your own hoverbike, a vehicle that you can customise as you go through the world. Not only that, but your journey will be accompanied by the already fantastic sounding original soundtrack by indie artist Japanese Breakfast. It’s great.

If you want to try the game out now, well you can’t… yet. You can do very soon, though, because a limited-time demo will be made available next week, starting on 15th June for Xbox and on 16th June for PC via Steam.

the game has been in development by two-person team Shedworks for an awfully long time. We first saw the game all the way back in 2018, where I said in our preview:

While it feels like Shedworks are still finding their way in a lot of elements of the game, the relaxed, laid back exploration of Sable is sure to appeal to many. It’s got an intriguing art style and soundtrack and there’s no pressure, which should make it a lovely game to switch on and just chill out with after a long day.

It’s taken quite a while to get to its now near-final form, and we can’t wait to see more when the demo is available next week.
