Capping off their E3 Direct stream with a small wave of Legend of Zelda series announcements, Nintendo has revealed more about what will be in the first Expansion Pass content for musou hack ‘n’ slah spin-off Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The first expansion is called Pulse of the Ancients and it will launch this week on Friday 18th June.
In Pulse of the Ancients, you will be able to play as the Battle-Tested Guardian, you will have the new Flail weapon for Link and Master Cycle for Zelda, take on new challenges in the Royal Ancient Lab, and test yourself against the new apocalyptic difficulty level.
In our Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity review, Reuben wrote:
Age of Calamity is, for all intents and purposes, a prequel to Breath of the Wild. It might be a spin-off in a separate genre, but it’s clearly a labour of love, and the result is a thoroughly enjoyable romp through one of the most interesting periods of Hyrule. If the first game was a love letter to the Zelda series, this not only improves on this concept in every way, but stands as one of the best Zelda games, period.
Speaking of Breath of the Wild, Nintendo also gave us a look at ‘Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’, confirming that the game is now expected to release in 2022. A new trailer for the game revealed some of the first gameplay, including a new ability for Link and a journey up to the skies above Hyrule – if you remember the original vision for this DLC expansion turned sequel was to explore the ground beneath Hyrule.
Nintendo are also celebrating the series’ 35th anniversary with a Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda, collecting the first three games in the series.
