Sifu, the hotly anticipated PS5 brawler, has been delayed with new gameplay shown during last night’s State of Play event.

Also coming to PS4 and PC, the game will now launch in 2022 developers Slopclap have revealed. It’s not all bad news however – there’s a new Sifu gameplay trailer to karate chop into.

This new footage gives us our first look at the Fight Club level. Our hero will pummel their way through a night club to find its seedy underbelly, battling a variety of opponents.

SloClap have also detailed on the game’s core mechanics. In Sifu, the main character will age with every defeat, the gameplay trailer showing him punch his way through his forties.

When players get beat down by an enemy, they’ll back up in the same spot. You may have aged a couple of years but you won’t be any weaker. In fact, Sifu’s kung fu master will only become more deadly as he learns from past mistakes, becoming a seasoned fighter in the process.

Sifu is now expected to launch on PS5, PS4, and PC in the first months of 2022. Like many game development studios, SloClop was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Here’s an official statement:

The Covid crisis and the subsequent lockdowns have been a huge challenge for everyone, and although we were lucky enough not to face the important revenue losses that many businesses have gone through, the situation did create some real challenges for us. Since March 2020 we have had to adapt to changing regulations, switching the whole team to remote working while we continued our development work, and we lost some velocity as a consequence – remote working has its advantages, but losing daily informal interactions between team members can also be hard to manage.

Sifu builds on the team’s previous game, Absolver. There’s a clear connection between the two with a overriding focus on fluid hand-to-hand combat.
