Detroit: Become Human has more than 6 million copies worldwide, publisher Quantic Dream have confirmed.

The studio – know for their work on Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain, and Beyond: Two Souls – notes that Detroit also passed the one million sales milestone on PC as of this month.

The dystopian narrative adventure first launched as a PlayStation 4 exclusive back in 2018 before making a surprise leap to PC via the Epic Games Store. Since then, Quantic’s previous PS3 exclusives have also gone multiplatform. Not only that, the Parisian game developer has shifted into the publishing business. Earlier this year it launched a director’s cut edition for the superb Sea of Solutide by Jo-mei Games who are working with Quantic for their next project.

Here’s what Co-CEO of Quantic Dream, Guillaume de Fondaumiere, said about the company’s recent success:

Despite the sanitary crisis going on, 2020 was a very strong year in terms of growth for our studio. Last year, our group demonstrated the relevance of our self-publishing strategy by achieving new record results after taxes of 5.7 million euros. This very beneficial trend is confirmed even more during this first half of 2021, with record sales registered in recent weeks.

Detroit: Become Human builds upon that same choice-driven adventure game template Quantic are best known for. Reviews were mostly positive (we scored it a mighty 9/10) and despite some criticism over how it handled certain storylines it became a huge success for them, garnering a sizeable fanbase.

We’ve yet to hear of what Quantic Dream are working on next and while the studio could branch into other genres, there’s a good chance they’ll stick to what they do best. The commercial success of Detroit could prompt their first ever sequel, though we’d be just as interested to see them create another rich world of bold characters and intriguing narratives. Let’s just hope future projects aren’t tainted by the alleged toxic culture Quantic has gotten into hot water over in recent years.
