Velocity spiritual successor confirmed as Futurlab announces partnership with Thunderful

Futurlab has announced that it is partnering with Thunderful to develop a sci-fi adventure, high-intensity third-person combat game that will be the spiritual successor to Velocity. The Velocity series first arrived on the scene in 2012 with the debut game coming to PS3 and PS Vita. Velocity Ultra was a HD remake that came in 2013 which was then followed by Velocity 2X on Vita and PS4 in 2014. Ports of the game have since been released for Xbox, PC, and Switch.

FuturLab is celebrating its 18th birthday this year, and we’ve had the greatest gift of Thunderful signing our ambitious new IP,” said FuturLab Founder and Creative Director James Marsden. “It sees our studio returning to sci-fi action, possessing the same DNA as Velocity, but with far more ambition, style, and contemporary relevance. It is nothing short of a dream game, and we cannot wait to share it with the world.”

Last year, Futurlab released a prototype video for a third game in the series called Velocity Supernova. At the time Futurlab has confirmed that Velocity Supernova was no longer in development, but did not rule it out if a publisher came along to help bring the game to life. While this new game is yet to be titled it could have elements of Velocity Supernova in it, even if the new game is a spiritual successor and not a direct sequel featuring Lt. Kai Tana in the pilot seat. The new game is very early in development so no platforms or release dates have been announced. Instead, Futurlab has confirmed it is looking for new team members to work on the game’s development. Job vacancies can be found here.
