Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is going to see a standalone release for PS5 and PS4 on 3rd September, as well as a brand new Rivals mode, Sucker Punch has announced. However, as with all the Legends content released so far, this will also be available for free for all owners of any version of Ghost of Tsushima.

Rivals is an all-new mode coming to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, pitting two teams of two against one another in a test to see who can defeat waves of enemies better. Each enemy defeated will earn you Magatama that is then spent on Shades to block your opponents’ purchases, Curses, Hwacha fire, and more. This all builds up until you can unlock the Final Stand wave and battle for the win.

Alongside this comes a new Gear Mastery system, available to players who have earned 110-level gear. You can then bind those weapons to a class and activate challenges to upgrade the gear’s Ki level to 120 and get a second perk slot.

Prior to the 3rd September release and free update, Sucker Punch will update the current Legends experience with the release of Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. This will rebalance the Survival mode for shorter sessions, add a new weekly survival Nightmare challenge, and add more cosmetics.

The standalone release of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will be available for $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99 on both PS4 or PS5 consoles. You will be able to upgrade to the Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut for $40 / €50 /£44 on PS4 or $50 / €60 / £54 on PS5.

Ghost of Tsushima: How will Iki Island continue Jin’s story?

This standalone version of Legends will follow the new Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut that will release in just two weeks on 20th August. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will significantly grow the game’s single player story with a new Iki Island expansion and adventure for Jin to undertake.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will also bring a number of enhancements for the PlayStation 5. The PS5 will now render cinematics in real time, meaning that cutscenes across both Ghost of Tsushima and on Iki Island can feature lip syncing for Japanese voice over. Additionally, all content in the Director’s Cut will be enhanced to take advantage of the DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, there will be 3D audio enhancements on PS5, improved loading time, 4K resolution options and a frame rate target of 60FPS.
