Oxenfree II and Carrion are both coming to PlayStation

Oxenfree II: Lost Signal and reverse horror game Carrion are both coming to PlayStation consoles, it’s been confirmed. Both games were either announced or released first on other platforms, but are now spreading their wings to PS5 and PS4.

The sequel to the critically acclaimed 2016 original, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is coming to PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC later this year – the Switch and PC versions were previously announced. It takes us back to the town of Camena as unnatural electromagnetic waves interfere with the electrical equipment and radio signals. The game follows Riley Poverly who, unlike the cast from the original game, is looking back on her decisions through adolescence as opposed to making them anew.

We expect that, as she runs around town planting radio transmitters and trying to figure out what’s going on, with the conversations and supernatural goings on giving her the opportunity to reflect on her life and potentially choose a new path going forward.

By contrast, we know exactly what to expect from Carrion. This game already released for PC, Switch and Xbox One in July 2020, but is now confirmed for release on PlayStation 4.

Taking place in a remote scientific facility, the human researchers have to deal with the horror of an alien organism escaping containment and running rampant as it tries to escape. That alien organism is… you!

I had a great time running rampant through the covert facility when reviewing Carrion last year, as the game flipped the horror game genre on its head. In our Carrion review, I said:

“Turning the horror game genre on its head, Carrion is a gory delight for you rip and tear your way through.”

There’s no specific date for the release of either Carrion or Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, but keep an eye out for more news and expect them sometime this year.

  1. Oxenfree was very good, much better than most AAA games, and it’s one of the few games that actually deserve a sequel.
